Tottenham vs Chelsea Match Report 2017

Marcos Alonso scored a late goal for Chelsea as Tottenham Hotspur started their home campaign with a disappointing defeat at Wembley. The Blues’s new ¬£60m striker Alvaro Morata missed an easy headed chance in the early minutes before Alonso’s perfectly delivered free-kick gave Antonio Conte’s side the lead after 24 minutes.

Spurs then responded strongly with Harry Kane hitting the post and it looked like they had earned a point when Chelsea substitute Michy Batshuayi headed Christian Eriksen’s free-kick into his own net with eight minutes left.

The Blues had also had their chances, with Willian hitting the upright, and showed their trademark strength of character to secure all three points late in the game. On 88 minutes, Alonso snatched a second half winner, which Spurs keeper Hugo Lloris will feel that he should have saved.
