Sunderland edged closer to the relegation zone after being thumped 5-1 by Spurs on Monday night. The visitors took the lead through Lee Cattermole following a terrible Spurs defensive error, but the Lilywhites showed their power in the second half, scoring four unanswered goals en route to a 5-1 triumph. Emmanuel Adebayor scored a brace and with his second, also scored the league’s 900th goal this season Continue reading “Tottenham Sunderland 5-1 Video Highlights- Spurs push Poyet’s men closer to relegation”
Unfortunately, it had to be one of Cristiano Ronaldo and Zlatan Ibrahimovic who had to miss out on World Cup 2014. The two players, talismanic figures for their respective teams, scored five goals between them in Portugal’s epic 3-2 win over Sweden in the second leg of their playoff tie. Ibra netted twice while Ronaldo scored thrice in front of a crowd close to 50,000 in Solna.
However Ibrahimovic is never short of a quote and the PSG forward remarked that the World Cup would not be worth watching without him. Ibra is a superstar in his own right, but there will be more than a few who will argue that the World Cup would have been poorer without Ronaldo, whose consistency with Real and Man Utd in the last decade has been nothing short of incredible.
One thing is for sure, a World Cup without me is nothing to watch. Congratulations to Portugal, but both teams deserved to get to the World Cup
Given Ibrahimovic and Ronaldo’s ages, this was essentially a last shot for them at World Cup glory. At the next World Cup in 2018, Ibra will be in his mid 30’s, while Ronaldo will be 33.
Argentine legend Diego Maradona raised $500,000 ( half a million dollars) in charity for the Raisa Gorbacheva Memorial Institute for Children Hematology and Transplantation at an event organised by Swiss luxury watch maker Hublot yesterday on the roof of the Central Universal Department Store (TsUM) in the Russian capital city of Moscow.
Diego was asked to have a crack at 10 targets from 16 metres out, with each target represented by a different sum ranging for $25,000 to $300,000. If he had cracked all the targets, he would have raised $1m in charity. Continue reading “Diego Maradona raises $500K in Russian shootout Hublot”
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has laughed off rumours of veteran winger Ryan Giggs coming out of retirement to play for the Welsh national side. Welsh fans are clamouring for the legendary winger to guide the national side in Euro 2012 qualifying after the injury blow suffered to Aaron Ramsey.
Giggs had said that he would consider playing for the national team again if asked by Toshack. However Ferguson when asked about the possibility of the 36 year old to don Welsh colours again said, “Ryan? You must be joking”
“I can’t see it, it must have been a weak moment for Ryan. I can’t see that happening.”

Australia qualified for the FIFA World Cup in 2006, for the first time in thirty-two years, and immediately made a huge impact on the competition. They made it through to the knockout phase, where they faced Italy. The latter scored a last-minute goal to eliminate the Socceroos, and end their World Cup dream. However, their 2010 squad looks much stronger than it did four years ago, and coach Pim Verbeek will be hoping that his charges can go far in this competition. Their best player is arguably Tim Cahill, the Everton target man who enjoys a great fan following at Goodison Park – Australia will be hoping he plays with the same grit and determination that he shows week in week out for his club side. Other notable players for the Socceroos include winger Harry Kewell, and Blackburn stalwart Brett Emerton. Continue reading “Australia Preview- 2010 World Cup”

Bordeaux keeper Ulrich Rame has penned a one year extension to his contract with Les Girondins. The 37 year old stopper has been plying his trade with Bordeaux since 1997 and will now stay with them till the end of the 2010/11 season.
After averaging around 30 league appearances in previous seasons for Bordeaux, Rame has found opportunities hard to come by this year after the club signed Cedric Carrasso from Toulouse in the summer. In the 2009-10 season, Rame has only featured four times in Ligue 1 for the defending champions.
Hereford United have signed Lewis Young, the brother of Aston Villa winger Ashley, on an emergency loan deal from Watford till the end of the season.
Lewis, who can play both as a striker and a wide player, has made only four appearances for Watford this season. Three of those four appearances came in the League Cup.
Young will wear the Number 24 Shirt at Hereford United and could make his debut for them on Saturday against Bradford City.
