Argentine legend Diego Maradona raised $500,000 ( half a million dollars) in charity for the Raisa Gorbacheva Memorial Institute for Children Hematology and Transplantation at an event organised by Swiss luxury watch maker Hublot yesterday on the roof of the Central Universal Department Store (TsUM) in the Russian capital city of Moscow.
Diego was asked to have a crack at 10 targets from 16 metres out, with each target represented by a different sum ranging for $25,000 to $300,000. If he had cracked all the targets, he would have raised $1m in charity.
While he missed on several occasions, Maradona did manage to hit the $300,000 target though and was able to raise $500,000 in all.
According to the organisers, this was the first time Maradona had taken part in such an event in his long and distinguished career.
