AFC Champions League- Adelaide United pick up third straight group win

Adelaide United picked up their third win in as many games in Group H when they beat Sanfrecce Hiroshima 3-2 today at the Hindmarsh Stadium. However it was not all smooth sailing for Aurelio Vidmar’s men- Sanfrecce were leading 2-1 with a quarter of an hour left on the clock despite being down to ten men.

United’s goals came from Travis Dodd, Robbie Cornthwaite and Cassio, while Kazayuki Morisaki and Issei Takayanegi netted for the visitors. Sanfrecce Hiroshima also played for nearly an hour with ten men after Ilian Stoyanov had received his marching orders from Malaysian referee Mohammed Salleh in the 32nd minute of the game.

With this, Adelaide remain at the top of Group H. Sanfrecce are yet to open their account after three fixtures.

In the other Group H game, Korean side Pohang Steelers got the better of Shandong Luneng. It was Shandong’s second straight loss in Group H after being beaten 2-0 by Adelaide a fortnight ago.
