Simpson, 21, has made eight appearances for United this season, but the return of Gary Neville from injury would have certainly limited his first team opportunities.

The Tractor Boys are 10th in the Championship, and face Scunthorpe on Saturday. Simpson is expected to make his debut at rightback for the club. Simpson occupying the right spot means that David Wright or Castro Sito will have to take the left back spot.

It is the second time Simpson has joined a Championship side on loan. Last year he made fourteen appearances for Sunderland while on loan at the Stadium of Light. Sunderland are in the Premiership this season, and Simpson will hope for similar luck with Ipswich, although the chances are low.
